A note to David Cameron

Earlier this month it was announced that the Government has begun the process of identifying plots of land that can be sold to small and medium-sized developers in order to boost the building of new homes. In England, 32 local authorities have already started identifying plots that could be sold with planning permission. The idea will be piloted across five sites in the UK including Old Oak Common in North West London to begin with, in the hope that 30,000 affordable ‘starter homes’ can be built on brownfield sites over the next five years.

Roger Zogolovitch, Creative Director of Solidspace, has for many years now championed the role of the small or independent developer to build on gap sites in the city and he has this response to David Cameron’s announcement:

“Well done Prime Minister, your Christmas reading of my book ‘Shouldn’t we all be developer?’ has paid dividends. But read on and make sure that selling those plots with permission generates new housing rather than endless trading profit for speculatorsIn the New Year prediction season for housing and planning policy – look no further than my 10 chapter primeroffering the perfect blueprint for new homes for Britain.”
