Shepherdess Walk Hoardings

Hoardings tend to be pretty boring. People walk past wanting to know what’s going on but are hardly ever given the chance to engage with the changes that are taking place. We wanted to do something different at our development at Shepherdess Walk N1 so we worked with artist and designer Mike Abrahams to create a unique approach to our hoardings.

Mike invited Dark Angels – a group of creative writers – to create a ‘relay’ poem on the hoardings of the site. 12 writers each penned one line at a time before handing the poem on to the next. Each writer was allowed to use up to 34 characters and had to base each line on the theme of ‘home’ while starting their line with the same word that finished the previous contribution.

Each month we photographed the changing hoardings and the final poem of 12 lines was made into a poster and will be given to the owners of each of the eight new homes on the site. You can read the full poem below. Read an article featured in Design Week here.

We are delighted to have won not one but two prestigious D&AD Awards for this project given to initiatives that celebrate writing and design excellence and originality.

From Home to Home
Home opens up your own vision of possible
Possible dances new beginnings with joy
Joy in your heart tread lightly with love
Love and soft arms that hold us each night
Night rooms of sorrows and ardour speak
Speak dream bright windows to your world
World made divine by the promises we keep
Keep dreams alive and nightmares at bay
Bay of belonging a shared harbour our own
Own part of my restless heart sweet place
Place me in the bosom of this loving house
House me in the heartbeat at heart of home
